A 48 PAGE REPORT BY FLEET ADMIRAL ERNEST J. KING. THE COVER READS "UNITED STATES NAVY AT WAR- SECOND OFFICIAL REPORT TO THE SECRETARY OF THE NAVY- COVERING COMBAT OPERATION MARCH 1, 1944 TO MARCH 1, 1945". BY FLEET ADMIRAL ERNEST J. KING -  COMMANDER IN CHIEF, UNITED STATES FLEET, AND CHIEF OF NAVAL OPERATIONS. THE FRONT PAGE HAS A 6 ? INCH TEAR ACROSS THE MIDDLE.

THE INSIDE PRINTED LETTER DATED 12 MARCH 1945 READS, DEAR MR. SECRETARY: TWELVE MONTHS AGO I PRESENTED TO THE LATE SECRETARY KNOX A REPORT OF THE PROGRESS OF OUR NAVAL OPERATIONS AND THE EXPANSION OF OUR NAVAL ESTABLISHMENT SINCE THE BEGINNING OF THE WAR.

LONG BEFORE THE WAR FRANK KNOX SAW CLEARLY AND SUPPORTED STRONGLY THE NECESSITY FOR ARMING THE UNITED STATES AGAINST HER ENEMIES. HE KNEW THAT A POWERFUL NAVY IS ESSENTIAL TO THE WELFARE OF OUR COUNTRY, AND FOUGHT WITH ALL HIS ENERGIES TO BUILD A NAVY THAT COULD CARRY THE ATTACK TO THE ENEMY. HOW WELL HE SUCCEEDED IS NOW A MATTER OF HISTORY.

THE MANNER IN WHICH THE NAVY HAS CARRIED THE ATTACK TO THE ENEMY DURING THE TWELVE MONTHS FROM 1 MARCH 1944 TO 1 MARCH 1945 IS THE SUBJECT OF THE REPORT WHICH I PRESENT TO YOU AT THIS TIME.

IN READING THIS REPORT, ATTENTION IS ESPECIALLY INVITED TO THE SIGNIFICANT ROLE OF AMPHIBIOUS OPERATIONS DURING THE ENTIRE PERIOD. IN FACT, AMPHIBIOUS OPERATIONS HAVE INITIATED PRACTICALLY ALL OF THE ALLIED SUCCESSES DURING THE PAST THREE YEARS. SIGNED ERNEST J. KING TO THE HONORABLE JAMES FORRESTAL, SECRETARY OF THE NAVY WASHINGTON D.C. $110.00

THIS IS A BINDER LABELED ON FRONT AS "STAFF ORDERS AND MEMORANDA" WITH THE SIDE TAB READING, LIEUT. DORN. THIS BINDER CAME OFF OF THE U.S.S. HOGGATT BAY (CVE 75), CARRIER DIVISION TWENTY-THREE. THE REPORTS SHOW THAT H. M. MARTIN WAS THE REAR ADMIRAL AND COMMANDER OF CARRIER DIVISION TWENTY-THREE. THIS IS AN ESCORT AIRCRAFT CARRIER OF THE CASABLANCA CLASS OF 1942. KEEL LAID 8-17-43, LAUNCHED 12-4-43, COMMISSIONED 1-11-44. (THE MEMORANDA ARE FACINATING READING AS SOME OF THE TYPED MESSAGES CONTAINED IN THIS BINDER REFER TO THE JAPANESE SURRENDER CEREMONIES AND POW COMPOUNDS STILL BEING FOUND).

IF YOU SAW THE TV SHOW - TRAVELING ROADSHOW ON KCTS (PUBLIC STATION)- THAT AIRED THE MIDDLE OF APRIL '05 YOU WOULD HAVE SEEN THIS SAME BINDER AND SAME TYPE OF MEMO'S THAT WERE FROM DECEMBER 7, 1941,  PEARL HARBOR. IT WAS VALUED AT OVER $4000.00.  WELL THIS IS OF THE SURRENDER OF THE JAPS IN TOKYO BAY AND IS PRICED AT A LOT LESS.

LT. H. L. DORN IS SHOWN IN THE ROSTER OF OFFICERS AS HAVING THE PRIMARY DUTY OF- COMM. W. O., COLLTRL DUTIES- CUSTODIAN REG'D PUBLICATIONS & DUTY TRNG. FOR COMM. OFF.(AS OF 1 APRIL 1945) AS OF 1 JULY 1945 HIS ADDED COLLTRL. DUTY WAS ASST. CENSOR. ONE OF THE ROSTER OF OFFICERS PAGE IS SIGNED BY LT. R.H. SNYDER- FLAG SECRETARY (CHIEF CENSOR, STAFF W.O. & VOTING OFFICER) AS HIS COLLTRL. DUTIES. THERE ARE OVER 75 PAGES OF TYPED MEMO'S, EXECUTIVE OFFICERS NOTICE TO ALL HANDS, REPORTS, DUTIES, ETC.
